Bigots' Anger Going Down the Toilet

Bigots Outraged That Hate Crimes are Punished

Yes, dear readers, the usual bigots are absolutely outraged that our country, where we live under the rule of law, where we value everyone as having equal rights and punish those who would commit crimes against those rights, are having a hissy fit, absolutely outraged about the arrest of Stanislav Shmulevich, who was caught throwing a Qur’an in the toilet, and is under investigation for the year long pattern of anti-Muslim crimes committed on the campus of Pace University.

UPDATE 7/31/07 : You knew it had to come sooner or later, the bigots are in business for the money, as usual. Unfortunately hate pays quite well. The newest report from Little Green Footballs (LGF) is already soliciting for money, claiming that a “legal team” (which of course LGF says they’re helping) has agreed to work “pro bono” (free) for the suspect.

However, since nothing is as it seems to LGF, “free” doesn’t actually mean “free”, they are already prepping their readers to open their wallets to pay for the “free” legal representation.

Since the law firm or individual attorneys who are supposedly volunteering to represent the suspect for “free” aren’t named anywhere in the LGF article, there’s no way to verify that they even exist outside the imagination (and bank account) of the owner of LGF. As of 8/6/2007, there’s also no notice of appearance on the court’s docket record; when an attorney signs on to represent someone, the first thing they have to do is formally notify the court – and there’s nothing in the court record (as of yet.)

There’s also the little problem of the suspect already having given sworn confessions to committing the crimes and also giving a sworn confession to having committed them solely for the purpose of a hate crime. At least the suspect is taking responsibility for his actions, even if the hate mongers want to defend his actions.

So let’s have at it, boys and girls! Let’s send hundreds of thousands of dollars to LGF’s solicitation for the “free” legal team (and similar scams from fellow hate mongers sure to follow soon) in order to pay for invisible attorneys to represent the suspect for a five minute hearing at which he’ll most likely plead guilty (considering he’s already confessed and apparently realized that his actions are unacceptable in a civilized society), and then another 5 minute hearing at which he’ll be sentenced.

Here’s the “Update” from LGF:

Pace University Mindcrime Update
The latest news on the Stanislav
Shmulevich Koran-dunking “hate crime:” Mr. Shmulevich now has a legal team, and two LGF members are on it. His defense is being prepared. The team intends to act pro bono (without charge to Stan), but in any case like this there will be substantial legal expenses unrelated to the attorneys; so they are also planning to set up a transparent fund to receive donations from interested parties. When that’s established I’ll post more details.

What exactly are “substantial legal expenses unrelated to the attorneys”? Since every legal expense is related to one’s attorneys in one way or another, these must be “invisible expenses.” So now we have invisible expenses and invisible attorneys. Know what else will be invisible? Your paycheck if you donate to these bozos. If you really believe them, you’d be much better buying some swampland I have for sale in Florida, or even better, I have this really cool bridge in Brooklyn! I’ll even throw in some invisible attorneys, who will work for you for free, as long as people donate money.

UPDATE 7/30/07: The usual bigots are still outraged, even more so, now that the suspect has been charged by the District Attorney and arraigned on two felony hate crimes counts. There is all kinds of pseudo-legal analysis about free speech, religious works of art, that he'll never be convicted, etc, and continuing on the "outrageous" prosecution of this suspect.

Back in the real world, the suspect was arraigned on two counts of Criminal Mischief as a Hate Crime. The suspect is accused of having thrown Qur'ans in the university toilets, twice, and defecating on them. According to the court documents and the police "charge" report, found at:

http://www.hddweb.com/95376/WebCrims.pdf

and

http://www.hddweb.com/95376/Pace_Hate_Crime_Charges.pdf

the suspect was caught on video surveillance, and once identified he was arrested. Upon arrest, he gave a sworn confession to committing the crime of throwing the Qur'ans in the toilet and defecating, and also a sworn confession of knowingly doing it as a hate crime. A sworn confession is given, under oath, with testimony taken by a court reporter, and sometimes also videotaped. The suspect would have signed away his Miranda rights first, and either refused an attorney or given the confession after consulting with an attorney. The suspect was then released on personal bail, also known as a signature bond, where he just has to sign a form and give his word for bail.

A comment on the lack of common sense of the suspect: The owner of the well known hate site Little Green Footballs, Charles Johnson, is claiming that the suspect emailed him shortly after being released. The suspect is on trial for hate crimes, and one of the first things he does on release is email to a very well known online anti-Muslim bigot? Way to go there, Stanislav, make sure the court has no doubt of your own bigotry, and make sure the court knows that you associate with bigots. I'm sure that will lesson your sentence.

To all the Islamophobes who are protesting this, once again, I wonder what your reaction would be if this had been a Muslim throwing a Bible into the toilet and defecating on it?

Pace University Koran Case - Unbelievably Outrageous

I’ve received an email from Stanislav Shmulevich, who has been arrested in New York for putting a Koran in a toilet at Pace University. And his case is even more outrageous than we first reported.

First, Shmulevich was arrested and jailed for 24 hours. Second, he’s not facing misdemeanor charges—he’s being charged with two felonies, criminal mischief and aggravated harassment. Felonies. For putting a book in a toilet.

Third, his income is on a borderline that disqualifies him for a public defender, so he stands to suffer incredible financial hardship as well.

Fourth, his name and photograph were published in several newspapers in New York, and he and his mother were ambushed outside the court by reporters. In a case like this, clearly with the potential to enrage radical Muslims, this is so irresponsible of the media that it borders on criminal.

Do we still live in a country that values free speech? This case is pretty good evidence that we do not. Mr. Shmulevich is caught in a Kafkaesque nightmare right out of the Soviet Union, and it’s all happening at the demand of the Muslim Student Association and the Council on American Islamic Relations.

Stay tuned. This is not over.

Pace University Qur'an desecrator facing two felony charges

Outrageous. Beyond outrageous. A book is placed in a toilet, which is a plumbing issue more than anything else and a vandalism issue at best, and a man is charged with two felonies.

LGF has the details, via an email from the defendant.

And yet Little Green Footballs and Jihad Watch wonder why their sites have been banned or blocked as hate speech by millions of web users, filters, corporations and countries around the globe. I’d hand them a clue, but I don’t think they’d know what to do with it. I wonder what the hate mongers’ reaction would have been if a Muslim had thrown a Bible in the toilet?
